Why Celebrity Relationships Don't Last - Vondie's Love Chats

Why Celebrity Relationships Don't LastWith all the news about Tom and Katie?s break-up, it got me thinking? Celebrity has its perks, but when it comes to relationships, celebrities may actually be at a disadvantage.

Sex, Drugs, & Rock?nRoll
If you?ve ever watched HBO?s Entourage, you get a sense of?how much temptation there really is.?Sex, drugs and pretty much whatever you?want is instantly available.

But, that?s not the kind of environment that?s conducive to meeting someone you could have a real relationship with. That requires an investment of time and energy. It?s a give-and-take; not something you order up like room service.

The Bachelor
On The Bachelor, they always go to exotic locations. And the dates are high intensity, highly romantic and high adrenaline. But, that?s?actually the opposite?of what you want,?according to Andy Whaling (Sunday Night Singles, 2001). Because, when your dates are so exciting,?it?s easy to mix up your feelings?about the date with your feelings for the person.

So, if you?re a celebrity ? How do you ever know if someone is excited about you? Or if they?re just in love with your?money, fame, and power?

What Happens on Location?
It?s no secret that celebrities travel a lot and that?s hard on relationships. But, there are?special challenges when they?re away on location.?It?s like being in a time-warp or bubble.?Sometimes for months on end. The days are long. And the work is hard. Not to mention love-scenes, which complicate things on a whole other level.

It all creates a ?What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?? mindset. It?s like taking a?vacation from your relationship,. Except?what happens on location does have?real life consequences.

Extended separations are hard for any couple. According to Louann Brizendine (The Female Brain, 2006),?relationships require daily closeness and physical contact to keep the?attachment hormones flowing. Men especially need regular physical contact to stay connected. Without that regular contact, you actually go through withdrawals from the feel-good hormones that love releases in your brain. This?doesn?t excuse bad behavior. But, it does explain?the risks when long separations are a regular part of your relationship.

why celebrity relationships don't lastLife in the Spotlight
People magazine is one of my guilty pleasures. But, I also realize it contributes to the paparazzi machine and the complete lack of privacy for celebrities.

When everything is broadcast for the whole world to see, it interferes with the natural?process?of getting to know each other. And it accelerates the normally?gradual process of merging your lives. And when it comes to relationships ? faster is?not better. Because it takes time to really get to know and love someone.

Plus, every relationship has it?s bumps and rough patches. But, when normal relationship issues are publicly?scrutinized and?discussed, everything gets blown out of proportion. Not to mention, when things are taken out of context or there are outright lies.

Big Personalities
There?s no denying that celebrities have big personalities. So, two celebrities in a relationship means twice the drama and twice the spotlight.

The alternative would be dating someone who?s not in the industry. But, that also has its challenges, especially for the person who?s not used to the spotlight. Plus, it?means sacrificing the shared bond of understanding what the other person?s world is really like.

How Do They Do It?
There are celebrity couples that seem to have found a way to make it?work. There was Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. There?s Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Plus, Stephen Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. Hmmm? those are the main ones I can think of right now. Oh yea, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett! (But, not sure what?s really going on with them lately?)

But, they?re out there ??celebrity couples who are in good relationships that last.?They just seem to be the exception rather?than the rule. So, instead of asking,??Why don?t celebrity relationships last?? When couples do make it work, maybe the real question is,??How do they do it??

2012 iPhone's maybe-finished front appears with center camera, may straighten our FaceTime chats

2012 iPhone's possibly finished front turns up with center camera, may straighten out crooked FaceTime chats

A claimed test sample of the 2012 iPhone's complete body has already made the rounds, but it was using a rough front panel that wasn't supposed to be wholly representative of the finished work. Frequent part leaker Apple.pro has uncovered a sample which might be closer to the real deal: the white example shows the space for the taller screen that we've come to know, just with a conspicuously shifted FaceTime camera that now sits above the speaker. It's a small change, but it suggests Apple is going for much more of a family resemblance this time around -- a previously claimed 2012 iPod touch panel was merging the fourth-generation iPod's already centered camera with the taller display. While there's still room for this to be a creative fake or an interim design, the consistency hints that Cupertino is keen to shake things up a bit for the iPhone's fifth birthday.

Engineering technology reveals eating habits of giant dinosaurs

ScienceDaily (July 16, 2012) ? High-tech technology, traditionally usually used to design racing cars and aeroplanes, has helped researchers to understand how plant-eating dinosaurs fed 150 million years ago.

A team of international researchers, led by the University of Bristol and the Natural History Museum, used CT scans and biomechanical modelling to show that Diplodocus -- one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered -- had a skull adapted to strip leaves from tree branches.

The research is published today (July 16, 2012) in the natural sciences journal Naturwissenschaften.

The Diplodocus is a sauropod from the Jurassic Period and one of the longest animals to have lived on Earth, measuring over 30 metres in length and weighing around 15 tonnes.

While known to be massive herbivores, there has been great debate about exactly how they ate such large quantities of plants. The aberrant Diplodocus, with its long snout and protruding peg-like teeth restricted to the very front of its mouth, has been the centre of such controversy.

To solve the mystery, a 3D model of a complete Diplodocus skull was created using data from a CT scan. This model was then biomechanically analysed to test three feeding behaviours using finite element analysis (FEA).

FEA is widely used, from designing aeroplanes to orthopaedic implants. It revealed the various stresses and strains acting on the Diplodocus' skull during feeding to determine whether the skull or teeth would break under certain conditions.

The team that made this discovery was led by Dr Emily Rayfield of Bristol University's School of Earth Sciences and Dr Paul Barrett of The Natural History Museum in London. Dr Mark Young, a former student working at both institutions, ran the analyses during his PhD.

Dr Young said: "Sauropod dinosaurs, like Diplodocus, were so weird and different from living animals that there is no animal we can compare them with. This makes understanding their feeding ecology very difficult. That's why biomechanically modelling is so important to our understanding of long-extinct animals."

Dr Paul Barrett added: "Using these techniques, borrowed from the worlds of engineering and medicine, we can start to examine the feeding behaviour of this long-extinct animal in levels of detail which were simply impossible until recently."

Numerous hypotheses of feeding behaviour have been suggested for Diplodocus since its discovery over 130 years ago. These ranged from standard biting, combing leaves through peg-like teeth, ripping bark from trees similar to behaviour in some living deer, and even plucking shellfish from rocks.

The team found that whilst bark-stripping was perhaps unsurprisingly too stressful for the teeth, combing and raking of leaves from branches was overall no more stressful to the skull bones and teeth than standard biting.
